Daily Update--December 19/14

The only homework the students have over the holidays is to find a good book and read. The second IRP will be due around Jan.15th.

From my family to yours, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas, a safe and happy holiday season, and may the new year bring much laughter, good health, and well being to everyone!!!

Thank you to the students for bringing in the non-perishable food items for the  Christmas Cheer Board. As a class, we brought in 97 items. THANK-YOU!!!!

Also thank you to those students who brought in treats for our Christmas party today.

Tomorrow we will be having a locker clean-up, grade wars in the gym, an entertainment assembly, and going to watch the Cougars play hockey.

 Students are writing their rough drafts of their Christmas short story, and should almost be done writing their rough drafts. Today we started typing the second copy so we can edit during the typing period. Students should continue typing this weekend so we can edit on Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully the good copies, accompanied by a cover jacket and back page, will be completed by Wednesday, Dec.17th.

 Students are writing their rough drafts of their Christmas short story, and should be atleast three-quarters of the way through. Tomorrow we will start typing and editing, with the expectation that the good copies are accompanied by a cover jacket and back page completed by Wednesday, Dec.17th.

Students were given their Unit 4 Vocabulary tests which need to be signed and returned tomorrow.

Math-- POW #13 is due Friday. White worksheet is due tomorrow if students have not already handed it in.

 The plot diagram for their Christmas short story should be completed. Students are writing their rough drafts, with the expectation that the stories are typed with a cover jacket and back page completed by Tuesday, Dec.16/Wednesday,, Dec.17th.

Students were given their Unit 4 Vocabulary tests which need to be signed and returned tomorrow.

Math--Blue worksheet 4.2/4.3 is due tomorrow. It is to be completed in their daily assignment scribbler, showing all steps of calculation the answer using the two different strategies. POW #13 is due Friday.


SS- There will be a test tomorrow on the information gathered from the presentations on Early Settlements and Ancient Structures. Students should be reviewing their notes.

ELA—We will be tallying up our reading pages on Monday as we ran out of time on Friday.
There are some IRPs that were not handed in on Friday, and are due Monday.

The vocabulary Unit 2 test and the Evidence of Learning have been sent home for signatures and need to be back at school.
 
Math- We wrote our unit test today so no homework.

SS-- The personal timeline project will be due Monday, Nov.3  Please check the rubric for the criteria of this project.


 Students need to bring in a binder (can be an old one) that they can use as their portfolio binder. It will remain in school at all times. We will be compiling work into the binders in the next few weeks.

Math- Review package --Chapter Self-Test page--questions #3 a and b, #7,9,10, and all of the following page questions are due tomorrow.  A unit test will be written on Friday. A checklist was handed out.

SS-- The personal timeline  project will be due no later than Nov.3. Please check the rubric for the criteria of this project. Students should be typing their two sentences per event and then gluing them on to  the poster.

 ELA--Students are reading daily and making jot notes with their sticky notes towards their second IRP which will be due by October 31st. October reading calendars are due by Friday.

  Students need to get their Grammar tests signed and returned asap.


 The good copy of the character sketch is due by Thursday.

ELA--Students are reading daily and making jot notes with their sticky notes towards their second IRP which will be due by October 31st. October reading calendars are due by next Friday.

Students have filled in a character map of 5 characteristics (with evidence) of a character from their novel. Now they need to write a "character sketch" ( a paragraph) describing that character and using their character map as their jot notes/evidence of those characteristics. Examples were shown in class. The rough draft is due Monday.

Math-- Green worksheet 1.1 questions #1 to 13 and 1.4/1.5 worksheet--all questions except #32,34,36, and 38. Due Monday. A unit test will be written end of next week.
